Boulder

Boulder's running and cycling are shaped entirely by the Front Range foothills rising immediately west of town—the Flatirons dominate every route, with elevation gains of 600–900m on signature trail runs like the Flagstaff Road loop and Bear Canyon. Cyclists tackle the same steep terrain or head north to the Wednesday Morning Velo crit series and Valmont Short Track Series for road racing, while long-distance riders push 50km into the mountains via Coal Creek Canyon or south toward Denver via the plains. The city sits at 1,655m elevation on the western edge of the Colorado plains, making it cool and dry year-round but thin-aired—most runners and cyclists arriving from sea level need acclimatisation.
