Napoli
Naples sits on the Tyrrhenian Sea with Vesuvius looming 9km east at 1281m elevation, and the terrain shifts violently from flat seafront to steep volcanic slopes. Runners have the VI Neapolis Half Marathon and Naples Marathon as established city races, though the compact urban core means most training happens along the flat waterfront promenades or the Lungomare coastal paths. Cyclists tackle the Vesuvio Gravel event for serious climbing into the volcanic slopes, or head south towards the Amalfi Coast for relentless switchbacks; the nearby Gran Fondo Maratona del Matesannio draws regional gravel and road riders. The city itself is dense and chaotic for easy running, so most serious training routes use the bay loops or escape inland to the hills around Capodimonte.
