Schwerin's running is defined by its lakes—the Fünf-Seen-Lauf circles five of them in a 21.1km loop, and the flatter Frauenlauf (8km) and Zoolauf (2.7km) use park terrain near the castle and zoo. The city sits on the Schweriner See, with mostly flat ground and easy access to the Mecklenburg lake district; cyclists ride east or south between interconnected lakes on quiet, level roads, though the landscape offers little elevation gain. The Heldenmarsch (62km) hints at longer adventure routes through the water-studded region.
