Lucerne's running and cycling both pivot around the lake and the Alps just south. The Luzern Marathon hugs the flat lakefront, but serious runners and cyclists head into the Entlebuch region where the Bikemarathon Hergiswil am Napf climbs 1200m over rolling terrain, and the Napf itself (1408m) dominates the skyline. Cyclists also push deeper south into the Gotthard approaches — the Top Tour Chasing Cancellara Zürich-Andermatt crosses some of Switzerland's most demanding passes within range.
