Pulse Charleroi

Pulse Charleroi is a charity run held at Place du Prieure in Charleroi, offering 5 km and 11 km routes on a race day in late May. SECTEUR42 organizes the event, with backing from the city of Charleroi, CPAS Centre Public d'Action Sociale Charleroi, and the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. Its shorter distances position it as a community race, not a specialist endurance event, and organizers welcome participants of all ages. The event's charitable aim is central: all proceeds benefit Les Éclaireurs, a youth association. Registration begins in early May, with on-site entry possible for a minor additional charge. The published fees are modest: under ten euros for the 5 km and just over ten for the 11 km, prior to the late-entry increase.

Triathlon vert de Charleroi

Triathlon Vert de Charleroi, or TVC, is an off-road triathlon held near Loverval, within Charleroi's green spaces. It takes place on a Saturday in May, organized by Avenir Triathlon Club Charleroi as part of the LF3 calendar. The race begins at the swimming pool of the Centre de Délassement de Marcinelle, with a format suited for cross-triathlon rather than a standard road triathlon. Participants can compete individually or in relay teams, with shorter distances like 1/16 and 1/8 available. The event attracts adults, relay teams, juniors, youth racers, and categories for Kids A, B, and C, creating a club race atmosphere for all levels of the sport. The LF3 listing suggests it's good preparation for larger Cross Triathlon events, such as Xterra, and also serves as a final season tune-up. The organizers provide athlete guides, course-distance files, race-site details, start waves, podium information, and results, offering a structured approach for a local off-road event. A separate Relais Mouilles relay is also part of the program.

About cycling & running in Charleroi

Charleroi Training Notes

Running: Locals run Charleroi from the city centre, then drift along the Sambre or toward Castle of Monceau-sur-Sambre park for steadier Z2. The City Run Charleroi tour covers around 7 km and keeps the pace easy enough for start to runners as well. CRAC club, GOSP club, and ESM club give the serious runners a proper base. The 20 km Thuin Charleroi is the fast anchor race along the Sambre. La Course du Bois du Cazier, Pulse Charleroi, and the Marathon international de Charleroi keep the calendar busy.

Cycling: Locals ride the RAVeL first because it gets you moving without fuss. RAVeL 1 La Houillere and RAVeL W6 Au fil de l'eau make the Sambre feel like home turf. The route between Thuin and Charleroi runs 21 km along the River Sambre and works well for base miles. Ring Velo and EuroVelo3 Veloroute des pelerins add longer options from town. Montigny-Le-Tilleul gives the punchier work, where Artisatrail routes climb up to 490 meters of elevation gain. Triathlon Vert de Charleroi is the bike-side anchor event.

Season: Spring suits both sports best because the Sambre paths feel quick and the clubs are back in rhythm. Summer gives locals easy evening miles, and the Charleroi-to-Thuin RAVeL keeps a 21 km river line ready for steady rides or long runs. The city centre still works for short intervals when the days run hot. Winter changes the feel more than the plan. Locals keep Z2 on the RAVeL, use Castle of Monceau-sur-Sambre park for softer laps, and save the sharper stuff for clearer days.
