Bieg na 5

Bieg na 5 is the 5 km race during the PKO Białystok running weekend, held on Saturday evening after dark. It begins at Branicki Palace and concludes by the Town Hall on Kościuszko Square, utilizing two of the city’s most recognizable central locations for this short race. The course is designed for speed, featuring long straights on wide streets, and the night setting incorporates music and lights, creating a different atmosphere than a typical road race. Runners may opt for this 5K on its own or combine it with Sunday's half marathon. The weekend also features a free, untimed 4 km Breakfast Run and PKO Junior Runs for children aged 2 to 14, attracting participants beyond just half marathon competitors. The half marathon portion of the weekend includes a more extensive city route, spectator points, park sections through areas like Zwierzyniecki Forest and the University of Białystok campus, local Podlasie cuisine at the finish, and medals depicting Białystok landmarks.

Mistrzostwa Polski w triathlonie i paratriathlonie

The Polish Triathlon and Paratriathlon Championships take place at Zalew Dojlidy in Białystok. The start, transition area, and finish are located beside the reservoir at the Dojlidy Water Sports Center. This event is part of the Elemental Tri Series and features multiple race formats: sprint (0.75 km swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run), supersprint (0.4 km swim, 10 km bike, 2.5 km run), and an Olympic-distance option. The championships also encompass the Polish Paratriathlon Championships and Polish Aquabike Championships for Age-Group athletes. The event attracts elite racers, paratriathletes, age-group competitors, and youth categories from Młodzik to Junior. The supersprint races contribute to the Olympic Hopes Tournament and Polish Cup, providing a competitive environment for teenagers to be identified as potential national-team prospects. Notable elite participants include Maciej Bruździak, a bronze medalist at the Indoor Triathlon World Championships, alongside Kuba Gajda, Jakub Suchan, Paulina Klimas, Joanna Woźniak, Magdalena Sudak, and Zuzanna Sudak. The paratriathlon sprint field includes athletes from various Polish cities such as Warsaw, Wrocław, Nowy Targ, Ustroń, Myszków, and Czarków. Local competitor Ola Kieda from Białystok is also organizing a charity event in conjunction with the races.

Elemental Tri Series

Elemental Tri Series is a Polish triathlon series with races in Olsztyn, Strawczyn, and Białystok. The Białystok race uses the sprint format: a 0.75 km swim, 20 km bike ride, and 5 km run. It is open to age-group athletes, with a minimum age of 16 for the sprint event, so it fits newer triathletes as well as people chasing a fast short-course result. Olsztyn gives the series its clearest setting: the swim is in Lake Ukiel, at a renovated venue prepared for triathlon racing. That race has drawn more than 800 participants before, which points to a busy mass-start feel rather than a small local workout. Registration is handled online, with payment required shortly after signing up; once the fee is recorded, the athlete gets a start number automatically. Entrants can also add a cotton Elemental Tri Series shirt to their race pack.

About cycling & running in Białystok

Białystok Training Notes

Running: Locals run Białystok like a park system, because parks, squares, and forest preserves take about 32% of the city. Branicki Palace and Planty work for easy laps from the city centre. The palace loop is 5 km and works for intervals, faster Z2, and club nights. Fundacja Białystok Biega, Klub Biegostok, and Stowarzyszenie Nadaktywni all train there. Trasa Generalska gives long, quiet runs with barely any lights. Półmaraton Białostocki, Białystok Biega 5 km, Szybka Dycha, and Voivodeship Cross-Country Championships anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Locals ride from the same green edge, and the usual meet-up sits under Sprint Podlasie Cycling Center on ul. Sienkiewicz. Open Cycling Training Białystok pulls road and MTB people together when someone wants base miles, a harder pull, or something close to a gran fondo day. Sprint Podlasie Cycling Center gives the scene a clear hub. Ulica Sitarska connects into ul. Świętokrzyska and gives a long uphill for strength. Las Antoniukowski brings hills, sandy paths, and flatter bits when the bike turns toward cyclocross or singletrack mood. Pietrasze Forest adds the hill and viewpoint.

Season: The city feels best when the warm season settles in and the paths stay lively. Summer gives warm continental days, so locals start earlier, keep water close, and use Trasa Generalska or Ciołkowskiego when they want steady Z2 without much stopping. Spring puts mud into Zwierzyniec, but runners can stay on the hardened paths around it. Winter changes the deal for both sports. Long frosty spells, little sunshine, and snowy or damp swings move more running onto firmer park paths. Cyclists shorten the road work, keep the open trainings flexible, and save the bigger efforts for better surfaces.
