Around the World Run

The Around the World Run begins at Cape Fear Botanical Garden in Fayetteville, North Carolina, as a September race coinciding with the International Folk Festival. Participants can choose an in-person 5K run/walk or select from virtual 5K and 10K options for those unable to attend on race day. The festival's significance lies in its role in uniting Fayetteville communities through food, performances, and multicultural heritage, positioning the run within a broader community weekend rather than as a standalone event. The 5K course incorporates sections of road, the Cross Creek Linear Park Trail, and the Cape Fear River Trail, featuring broad paths and several wooden bridges. This race benefits the FOCA Scholarship Fund, which provides merit- and need-based scholarships to spouses and children of Civil Affairs Soldiers, and is dedicated to these soldiers and their families. Awards are presented to overall and age-group finishers, teams compete for a largest-team prize, and virtual runners are eligible for a Furthest From Fort Bragg award.

Chinkapin Hollow Gravel Grinder

The Chinkapin Hollow Gravel Grinder begins and ends at Lake Wedington Recreation Area, a US Forest Service park near Fayetteville, Arkansas. This gravel cycling event takes place in the Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas, offering four distance choices: 24, 40, 64, and 96 miles. The 24-mile option is available for riders 12 years and older, the 40- and 64-mile options for riders 14 years and older, and the 96-mile option for riders 16 years and older. The route departs Lake Wedington, heading west on gravel roads into eastern Oklahoma. This ensures that even the longest distances maintain their start and finish at the park. The 96-mile distance serves as the main competition, featuring equal cash prizes for men and women: $350 for first place, $250 for second, and $150 for third. Upon returning, participants receive hot food, drinks, and snacks, contributing to the event's atmosphere of a full day at Lake Wedington rather than a straightforward race.

Deerfly Trail Race

The Deerfly Trail Race returns runners to the woods at Carvers Creek State Park’s Sandhills Access in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This small October trail event features timed 11K and 6K races, both beginning in the morning. The participant limit is 200. The course is straightforward: choose the 11K or the 6K, park at the Carvers Creek access, and run trail miles within the state park. Dogs have their own timed 11K and 6K events starting shortly after the runners, adding a unique character to the race. The series is in its sixth year, features a new deerfly-themed logo annually, provides shirts and coins, and includes cash prizes for course records. Heckler Brewing Company is the sole sponsor, with packet pickup and a Friday evening gathering associated with the race weekend.

ランニング： フェイエットビルのランナーは、公園やトレイル、安定したグループランを頼りにしてるよ。Lake Rim Trailは、木々や植物、野生動物の中を5 miles走れて、Cape Fear Riverの景色も楽しめるんだ。Smith Lake Trailsは、7 mileのループで、green, blue, blackのセクションがあって、だんだん坂が多くなるよ。Fleet Feet Fayetteville Run Clubは、毎週月曜の夜6時に集まってて、1, 3, 5 mileのコースがある。一年中やってるんだ。Fayetteville Running Clubは2008年から活動してて、毎週12回も集まりがあるんだよ。主なレースは、Firecracker 4 Miler, Juneteenth Celebration 5k, Cape Fear River Run, The All American Marathonとかがあるね。

サイクリング： フェイエットビルのライダーは、舗装路、グラベル、シングルスピードと、いろんなライドを楽しんでるよ。Cape Fear River Trailは、幅10-footの舗装路で、自転車でも走りやすいから、ベースマイルにはもってこいなんだ。複雑なルートじゃないしね。Smith Lake Trailsは、ランナーも使う7 mileのループで、マウンテンバイカー向けには初心者、上級者、エキスパート向けのセクションがあるんだ。The Beastは11.01 kmで84 mの獲得標高があるし、FRC Pope Airfieldは10.27 kmで39 mって感じかな。Manchester to Preacher North, Tranquility Rd, Pine Tree Rd, Callie Rdあたりは、グラベルライドの定番ルートだよ。坂道は西のSandhills方面か、The Beastみたいな短くてパンチの効いたルートにあるね。グラベルイベントの目玉は、Arkansaw High Country RaceとChinkapin Hollow Gravel Grinderだよ。

シーズン： 春は最高だよ。Cumberland Countyでは、ほぼ毎週違うラン、ウォーク、ハイクイベントがあるからね。年の前半はイベントが多くて賑やかだから、地元の人たちはレースに出たり、ボランティアしたり、サポート付きのワークアウトとして利用したりしてるんだ。夏は暑くて湿度が高いから、急な雷雨やにわか雨で計画が台無しになる前に、地元の人たちは早めにインターバルを済ませちゃうんだ。日陰が欲しい時はCape Fear River Trailがいいし、空気が重い時はSmith Lake Trailsはちょっときつく感じるかもね。冬は穏やかだけど、涼しくなることもあるよ。数少ない雪の日以外は、ランナーもサイクリストもZ2トレーニングを続けてる人が多いかな。
