Ostrava sits in the Moravian-Silesian lowlands at 200m elevation, a former industrial city where running has become central to urban renewal. The flat Ostrava Marathon and shorter Urban Challenge Ostrava use the regenerated riverfront along the Odra; parkruns and local races like Gladiator Race Ostrava draw steady crowds through the city's parks and reclaimed industrial zones. Cyclists find the terrain unremarkable locally—mostly flat, tree-lined canal towpaths—but the city sits within 40km of the foothills of the Carpathians and Beskydy Mountains, which offer climbs and proper forest riding to the south and east.
