Beat Bechtel is a small Sunday-morning 5K in Bechtel Park in Waterloo, Ontario, run on unpaved park trails. It is part of Run Waterloo’s Run Pure + Simple series, which fits the setup: chip timing, a low entry fee, and a race experience focused on the essentials.
The course uses two loops of a certified 2.5K trail route, with reusable timing chips returned after the finish. There are no shirts, medals, swag, or awards, and any food or extras are kept minimal. Run Waterloo members can enter for free, strollers are not allowed on the course, and the listed field is only about 30 runners, so this is closer to a practical local trail effort than a large-scale 5K.

DU YOU KNOW HOW PAINFUL THIS WILBY?
DU YOU KNOW HOW PAINFUL THIS WILBY? is a small, free race day at Vista Hills Public School in Waterloo, Ontario, starting at 7:00 AM with a deliberately low-key setup. Participants can choose from a 25K run, a 50K or 75K ultra composed of multiple loops, or a duathlon combining a 25K run with approximately 23K of cycling. A shorter 8K run and a sprint duathlon, featuring an 8K run plus the same bike distance, are also available.
The run begins and ends at the school, utilizing open roads instead of a closed course. Runners must be aware of traffic and run into oncoming traffic where feasible, and familiarize themselves with the route beforehand as there are no course markings beyond turnaround cones. The bike leg is a rolling loop, draft-legal, and excludes time trial bikes; riders must adhere to normal road rules and conclude before the stop sign at Wideman Road and Wilmot Line. Timing relies on Strava segment data, with manual timing offered upon request. The event is framed as a local challenge rather than a polished production, with the organizer describing it as an opportunity to “crush our legs in a diversity of ways on Wilby.”

Wise Raven Trail Race
The Wise Raven Trail Race utilizes a 2.5 km forest loop situated at Camp Heidelberg, the K-W Optimist Club property on Kressler Road in Waterloo, Ontario. Held in October, it provides 5 km, 10 km, 25 km, 50 km, 6-hour, and 6-hour relay race formats, with all participants completing the same short loop multiple times. The event is limited to 115 participants, is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario, and uses electronic timing by Chiptime Results. Remaining funds after operational costs are donated to Run-Walk-Roll for WRHNCC, extending over ten years of financial support for this initiative.
The loop begins with a quick, level section alongside the covered aid station, heading towards Camp Heidelberg pond. It then proceeds through mostly maintained trail featuring brief rocky and root-filled segments, along with some gentle inclines. Each circuit adds approximately 45 m of elevation gain, contributing to a consistent effort over longer distances rather than a single strenuous climb. Relay teams consist of 2 to 4 runners who exchange an ankle chip at the start/finish area, with each runner required to finish a complete lap before a substitution. The aid station offers practical, abundant snacks: soda, water, electrolytes, candy, chips, pickles, and occasionally PB&J sandwiches or pie. The race is cup-free, requiring runners to use their own bottles; pacers, pets, and alcohol are prohibited on the premises.
G2G TrailはGoderichのLake Huronまで127 km、Cambridge to Paris Rail TrailはGrand Riverの東側を18 km走ってるよ。 Ride with the Randonneuses: A Women-Only 200km Brevetは、この地域の大きなイベント名だね。
