Carrera por la Diabetes

Carrera por la Diabetes connects road races in Spain and Costa Rica with the goal of running and walking to support diabetes awareness and social programs. The events offer accessible formats, including 5k and 10k races plus walking options, allowing participation from regular runners, first-timers, and those who prefer to walk. In Sevilla, the race is a November carrera popular organized by ANADIS DIABETES SEVILLA. The Costa Rica event begins and ends at the Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos in La Sabana. The first Carrera por la Diabetes was held in Costa Rica. This race is part of the broader Costa Rican running calendar and is associated with the Asociación Costarricense de Endocrinología, with funds supporting diabetes-related work. The series emphasizes making a public-health cause visible through a familiar community race format rather than a single famous course.

Acuatlón Velá de Triana

The Acuatlón Velá de Triana begins and ends at Seville's Puente de Triana, placing the race at a well-known river crossing. As a July aquathlon, athletes compete in a swim-and-run format, distinct from a typical road race or triathlon. The event includes Sprint and Super Sprint categories, with different fees for federated and non-federated participants. Registration opens in June via the Andalusian Triathlon Federation. Entry is capped to maintain a manageable size, with Runedia indicating a 300-person limit and OF Sport specifying separate caps for Sprint and Super Sprint divisions. The full course details are not provided, but the official distance is homologated, and both the start and finish are at Puente de Triana. The event accommodates both licensed triathletes and non-federated competitors, particularly in the Super Sprint category. Race-day amenities include a cloakroom, post-race food or sandwiches, and awards for winners. OF Sport organizes it as the Memorial Íñigo Vallejo. Source information varies on the edition number, with one listing XI and another stating it is the fourteenth edition.

About cycling & running in Seville

Seville Training Notes

Running: Locals run the rio Guadalquivir promenade because it stays simple and calm. Sevilla Running Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at la Torre del Oro and runs along the rio Guadalquivir promenade. The east side of the river holds shade until about 9:30 or 10am, so morning intervals feel sane. Parque de Maria Luisa gives you an easy 5K anchor with Carrera popular Parque de Maria Luisa. Carrera Nocturna del Guadalquivir and Zurich Maratón de Sevilla sit on the calendar when you want a bigger goal. Triana gives the run a proper local feel near Puente de Triana.

Cycling: Locals ride Seville for base miles first, because the city has more than 180 kilometers of bike lanes. Bike lanes are normally bi-directional, painted green, and separated from the road. The city centre gives you a short spin to quiet riverside paths, and Aljarafe gives you more room once you want Z2 outside town. Roadies and gravel fans go north when they want climbs. Constantina, Cazalla de la Sierra, and San Nicolas del Puerto bring provincial roads, bike lanes, and gravel tracks. The northern mountains give hilly inclines and prolonged climbs for gran fondo legs.

Season: October mornings feel right here, and locals get out early because highs can still reach around 32°C. Seville sits at 110 meters, so the flat city miles come easy until the heat takes over. Summer changes the whole rhythm. Locals wake just before sunrise and roll or run as soon as it is light enough. July and August bring average daily highs above 35°C, and temperatures above 40°C are not uncommon. Winter brings mild weather and moderate rainfall, so runners keep the river steady and cyclists shift between bike lanes, gravel tracks, and northern climbs.
