Laredo running is dead flat and hot—the Laredo Stroke Support F.A.S.T. 5K and LPD National Police Week 10K are spring and early-morning affairs, mostly along the Rio Grande levees and city parks where shade is scarce. Cyclists find little elevation change within the city limits but venture south toward the Mexican border or north into the scrublands for longer road rides; heat and wind off the river are the real obstacles here rather than terrain. Summer temperatures exceed 40°C, so serious runners and cyclists train before dawn or wait for November through March.
