Hustle for the House

Hustle for the House is a Nashville 5K and 1-mile fun run that starts and finishes at the Nashville Ronald McDonald House. The race benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville, with the 1-mile event starting first and the 5K following later that morning. The 5K follows a certified course through the Hillsboro West End neighborhood. Runners can participate in person or run virtually from their chosen location. The event has a disco theme, encouraging participants to wear their best disco attire. Teams can form from companies, churches, families, or friend groups, often wearing shirts displaying their team or company name. Fundraising includes sponsorships, in-kind support, and corporate matching programs.

US Trail Running Conference

The US Trail Running Conference is a trail and ultrarunning conference for those who organize, cover, sponsor, and participate in off-road events. Its mission centers on race directors, with brands, athletes, media, and outdoor industry leaders collaborating to discuss the practical future of the sport. A listed edition is set for Nashville, Tennessee, providing the gathering an urban setting instead of the mountain-town environment one might associate with trail running. Terry Chiplin founded the conference, now overseen by UltraSignup. The attendees are key: race directors can compare notes with colleagues, brands can learn about event needs, media can connect with individuals shaping the race calendar, and runners can gain insight into decisions behind trail and ultra races. Dale Garland of Hardrock 100 described it as a venue for exchanging ideas and mutual learning, while Shalini Bhajjan highlighted the diversity of peers present at a recent edition.

Music City Juneteenth Freedom Day 5K Run/Walk

At Fort Cornelia Airpark in historic East Nashville, the Music City Juneteenth Freedom Day 5K is a run/walk held around the Juneteenth holiday. The event begins early in the morning and welcomes participants who want to run, walk, or roll, rather than treating the 5K as a runners-only race. Its purpose is tied directly to Juneteenth, with organizers using the day to raise awareness around health, equity, and social justice, especially for underserved and underrepresented communities. The course is presented as a way to connect with local Black heritage in Nashville, with the event’s own materials pointing to historic North Nashville as part of that story. DJ 50Cyn provides the music, and the race emphasizes movement and celebration as much as finishing times. Awards are given to the top overall men and women, while proceeds support three local nonprofits, including groups focused on youth literacy such as Brown Boys Read.

About cycling & running in Nashville

Nashville Training Notes

Running: Locals run the Cumberland River Greenway when they want steady miles, and the nearly 12-mile point-to-point stretch keeps Z2 simple. Richland Creek Greenway gives about 4 miles, while Shelby Bottoms Greenway connects into Stones River Greenway for flatter work. 2 Mile Road Loop has long climbs at 3, 6, and 9 miles. East Nasty meets Wednesday at 6:00 PM at 12th and Holly, 12 South Runners rolls from Embers Ski Lodge, and Nashville Front Runners keeps it social. Hometown Half Marathon and the Nashville Turkey Trot anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Riders use Franklin and Cool Springs when base miles need bite. GSD leaves the Starbucks in downtown Franklin every Saturday, and the A group sits in the low 20s mph while the B group averages 19 mph. TNW rolls from Tivity Health in Cool Springs on Tuesday nights, and the roughly 25-mile loop feels shorter and punchier. The climb runs 2 km and gains 604 m. Southside roads bring rolling hills, and Barfield Crescent Park has 7 miles of mountain bike trail.

Season: Spring, Summer, and Fall are the best training months here, with parks, greenways, and group rides all feeling busy in a good way. Summer starts early because the heat pushes the schedule, and GSD B Group goes at 7:00 AM while GSD A Group goes at 7:10 AM. Runners still hit Shelby Park, the Cumberland River Greenway, and Percy Warner Parks, but long runs feel smarter before the day cooks. Winter shifts the bike rollout later, with GSD B Group at 8:00 AM and GSD A Group at 8:10 AM, and runners keep using the flatter greenways when hills feel less inviting.
