Jaén sits in Andalusia's olive oil heartland, surrounded by rolling hills that climb toward the Sierra de Cazorla 40km east. Runners use the flat Carrera por la Paz y la Integración course through the city, but serious cyclists head out for the gravel and mountain roads where the Goliat Bike Race tackles 55km of steep terrain around 900m elevation gain. The landscape is relentlessly hilly—expect sustained climbing on any route out of the city centre.
