Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run
The Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run is a 5K and 1-mile Fun Run held at Wrights Mill Road Elementary in Auburn. The Fun Run begins before the 5K in the morning. This event benefits Special Olympics Alabama, with race day focused on generating funds and awareness for athletes with intellectual disabilities, rather than solely on competitive times. Law enforcement officers define the event: participants include officers from across Lee County, the Auburn Police Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Opelika Police Department. A key tradition involves carrying the Flame of Hope. The funds raised enable Special Olympics Alabama to provide ongoing sports training and competition. The 5K includes awards for the top three male and female finishers, while the Fun Run offers a relaxed option for families and casual runners.
