Terrebonne General Health System HeroFest 5K

The Terrebonne General Health System HeroFest 5K is a 5K race in Houma, Louisiana. It begins at 346 Civic Center Boulevard at 8:00 a.m. CDT. The race is connected to Hero Fest, a Terrebonne Parish community event focused on supporting local First Responders and raising funds for them. The race is part of a larger gathering featuring nonprofit organizations and vendors sharing their causes. Registration is $30. Current registration is for the race itself; a previous offer for a race shirt and goodie bag has concluded.

LAMBRA Time Trial Championship

The LAMBRA Time Trial Championship is a USAC-sanctioned individual time trial held in LaPlace, Louisiana, and promoted by the New Orleans Bicycle Club. Competitors race solo against the clock over distances of 40 km, 20 km, or 10 km. The shorter distances are designated for younger junior participants. This event caters to the Louisiana/Mississippi racing circuit and utilizes a posted start list, allowing riders to know their precise start time prior to arrival. Most adult and older-category participants contest the 40 km course. Juniors are divided into age bands starting from 9-12 years old, and masters categories are organized in five-year increments up to 70+. A unique option is the Merckx Style competition: 40 km participants can vie for separate top-three medals while adhering to specific equipment rules. These include using standard road handlebars, excluding aero bars, employing wheels with a minimum of 16 spokes, and prohibiting full disc wheels. Advance registration is mandatory, with participants limited to entering one class or category. The start order within categories is determined by USAC road time-trial ranking points.

Spillway Classic Trail Run

The Spillway Classic Trail Run offers a 3-mile off-road course through the Bonnet Carre Spillway in Norco, Louisiana. The New Orleans Track Club organizes this annual event, which is approaching its fourth decade. It is a short trail race, not a road 5K, with a route on dirt and natural surfaces that can become wet, muddy, or uneven depending on recent weather. The course, nicknamed The Gauntlet, winds through natural trails shaped by the spillway’s changing ecosystem. Runners should anticipate variable footing, potential elevation changes, and conditions that can differ from one year to the next. The race is open to walkers and runners of all paces, with options for individual or family entry (up to six people). Post-run refreshments for participants include local Louisiana items: beer from Crescent Crown Distributing, Elmer’s Chee-Wees, Baker Maid sweets, Jambalaya Girl, and Kentwood Springs water.

バイユー沿いの道、平坦な道ばかりだよ

ランニング： 地元の人たちはThibodauxを、Z2ペースで走るのにぴったりの街だと思ってるよ。バイユー沿いの道やシンプルな周回コースがたくさんあって、距離を稼ぎやすいんだ。軽く流したいなら、+11 mのアップダウンがある07 kmのコースがいいね。本格的なbase milesを積むなら、+51 mの19 kmコースがあるよ。短めの日にサクッと走るなら、Around NSU、Boxer Route 1、Sugarmill 5 Milerあたりがおすすめ。年間のイベントとしては、Terrebonne General Health System HeroFest 5K、50th Annual Andouille Run/Walk、Claire's Promise 5Kなんかが目玉レースかな。

サイクリング： 地元サイクリストは、落ち着いてロードを走りたい時にバイユー沿いに行くんだ。真っ先に名前が挙がるのはBayou Blackだね。GibsonからHoumaまでのBayou Blackは、22 milesの素晴らしいサイクリングコースだよ。特に北側がサイクリストのおすすめ。Bayou Caneには、合計31 kmのサイクルルートが4つもあるから、サクッと走ったりインターバルを入れたりするのに便利だよ。1 kmで7 mしか上がらないBayou Caneのコースもあるけど、ここはヒルクライムの街じゃないってことはみんな分かってるからね。長距離を走るならBayou Black Loopがいい。このロードコースは39 milesあるんだ。自転車のメインレースはLAMBRA Time Trial Championshipだね。

シーズン： Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodauxには「ベストシーズン」って明確な時期がないから、地元の人たちは感覚で季節に対応してるんだ。夏のトレーニングは、Run Club、NSU、Bayou Cane、Bayou Blackといったおなじみのコースで現実的にこなす感じ。Z2を維持したり、短めに切り上げたりしやすいんだ。冬になっても地形がヒルワークに変わることはないよ。一番高い場所でも、バイユー沿いの自然の堤防くらいだからね。ランナーは5KコースやThibodauxのロングループを走り続けるし、サイクリストはBayou Black、特にあまり人が通らない側を走るのが気持ちいいんだ。
