Bolzano

Bolzano sits in the Dolomites at 262m elevation, surrounded by limestone peaks that make this one of Italy's premier cycling and trail-running destinations. Cyclists use the city as a base for the Granfondo Marcialonga Craft (135km through the Passo Gavia and Passo Tonale) and the Tour d'Ortles (300km), while runners tackle the steep alpine terrain of the 9° Rosengarten Schlern Sky Marathon (45km) and the punchy 52° Corsa in Montagna Bronzolo-Aldino (6km hill race). The valley floors offer flat recovery routes, but the real draw is immediate: trails and gravel roads climb steeply into the surrounding massifs within 5km of the city centre.
