Kingston's running scene is dominated by flat lakeside routes along Lake Ontario and the Rideau Canal; the 9runrun Kingston 5K and The Wooly Bully Races are local favourites that stay low. Cyclists have it tougher — the Kingston Stage Race Hill Climb and Wolfe Island Gravel Grinder push riders into the Frontenac Hills south of the city and across water to gravel terrain, where serious elevation and loose surfaces test legs within 20–30km.
