Corfu Old Town Trail starts from Liston Square in Corfu Town and sends runners straight into the old city rather than out onto a rural path. It is a city trail run near the end of the tourist season, usually in September or October, with 14 km and 7 km options plus a parent-child race. The event is organised by local Corfu authorities together with the Corfu Mountain Trail team, and it has already been held more than ten times. The 14 km course goes through St. Spyridonas Square, crosses Nikiforou Theotoki Street, climbs toward the hill of the New Fortress, and continues inside the fortified old town. The route also passes both Corfu fortresses, the Asian Art Museum, Mon Repos Palace, and the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, so runners cover a lot of the island capital’s historic core in one race. The field includes club runners, independent entrants, and local participants, with names from Corfu clubs appearing alongside unaffiliated runners.
The Classic Race starts solo runners from Tsepelovo at 5:30 a.m., with a nine-hour limit to cover 33 km and 2,100 m of elevation gain. This is the mid-distance mountain race within the Zagori Mountain Running weekend, held near Ioannina. It runs concurrently with 60 km, 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, a 1 km children’s race, and the 60+33 km ZMR Challenge. The event awards ITRA Mountain Level / Finisher Level points and is part of the 250 National League, making it suitable for runners seeking a challenging mountain course without committing to the longest race in the series. The course begins at the Gymnasium of Tsepelovo, descends for 2.6 km on a dirt road, crosses Hatzios Bridge, and then ascends towards the first aid station at 4 km. From there, it follows trails and old village paths through seven Zagori villages: Tsepelovo, Kipoi, Koukouli, Vitsa, Monodendri, Kapesovo, and Vradeto. Participants will navigate six stone staircases, including Bayas/Kondodimos and Vitsa, and several stone bridges such as Kondodimos, Misiou, Pera, and Dothe. Kipoi hosts the main aid station around 10 km, and a past edition recorded 400 participants.
Running: Locals run Igoumenitsa close to the water first. Drepanos and Makrygiali give you 7 km of Blue Flag beach for steady Z2, strides, and easy recovery days. The mountain side gives you the other option when you want bite in the legs. Igoumenitsa City Run 5k and Igoumenitsa City Run 10k use certified routes, so those are the clean anchor efforts. Igoumenitsa Half Marathon also has a certified route, and Igoumenitsa Half Marathon 2027 sits on the calendar. Runners here do not have a named run club in the brief, so the rhythm feels informal.
Cycling: Locals ride from the port straight into proper Epirus terrain. Bikemap lists 195 cycle routes around Igoumenitsa, and the good days point inland when you want climbing. One route runs 5 km and stacks 2,040 m of ascent, so that is not a coffee spin. Another route runs 5 km with 932 m up and back down. The Municipal Sailing Club is the named local club, not a cycling squad. Greek Hero XTRI 2026 is the anchor event name riders will notice.
Season: May and June are the sweet months, and most people cycle here then. Summer brings hot, relatively dry days, so locals keep intervals early, leave long Z2 for cooler hours, and use the coast when the legs feel cooked. Igoumenitsa has mild to cool, rainy winters, and that changes both sports more than the temperature does. Runners move toward steady base miles, cyclists watch the sky before committing to the climbs, and the scent of wild herbs and flowers still shows up on the right road after rain.
