StraLugano

StraLugano offers participants a flat 5K, a certified half marathon, a relay, or a 9 km climb to Monte Brè, all within the same weekend. The event takes place in Lugano, Switzerland, in late September, organized by Associazione StraLugano, featuring road running, trail running, walking, children's races, and family activities. The half marathon is a single 21.0975 km loop certified by Swiss Athletics. The 10Km CityRun is a fast course with minimal elevation gain, and the 5Km FunRun is suitable for beginners. The Monte Brè Run covers 9 km with 730 meters of elevation gain, including an initial stretch on the Sentiero di Gandria and a demanding final ascent. The StraCombinata combines the 10K with the Brè Run. Teams can divide the half marathon relay, and children compete in age-appropriate distances. Five francs from each registration fee benefit youth programs.

Scenic Trail

Scenic Trail is a June trail-running series in Capriasca, Switzerland, offering races from a 5 km charity run to a 120 km ultra. The series includes options for various skill levels: the K18 Walk & Run is suitable for families, the K31 Skyrace is a technical mountain race, the K54 Original Trail is the main mid-distance route, the K83 Endurance prepares runners for ultra-trail racing, and the K120 Ultra is the most challenging option. The longer courses traverse the ridges, woods, pastures, and high terrain surrounding Capriasca and Lugano. The K54 route follows the ridges of the Capriasca amphitheater. The K31 climbs to high peaks before descending through woods and pastureland to Tesserete. The K18 offers less experienced runners and walkers views over Lugano without the difficulty of the ultras. The small K5 Charity Run provides a community event alongside the weekend focused on steep Swiss Alpine trail running.

Morobbia Trail

Morobbia Trail is a trail-running event in Bellinzona, Switzerland, with race options from 5 to 33 kilometers. The program is built around mountain-style choices rather than one fixed distance: runners can go long on the K33 Wolf Trail, race the shorter K14 Cross Trail, or pick the 5 km Mannaro Vertical. There is also a 6 km People's Walk and a Kids Run, so the day is not only for experienced trail runners. The available distances make it easy for families, walkers, newer runners, and stronger mountain runners to share the same event while choosing very different levels of effort.

About cycling & running in Lugano

Lugano Training Notes

Running: Locals run Lugano by linking Lake Lugano with hills, peaks, and characteristic villages. The Lugano region gives runners more than 900 kilometers of signposted trails. The routes mix alternating asphalt and dirt road surfaces, so base miles rarely feel stale. Fitness Park Pregassona and Fitness Park Parco Ciani work well for a simple strength stop. The brief names no dedicated run club, so locals lean on the marked network and race weekends. StraLugano is the anchor event, and K4 Vertical, Scenic Trail, BancaStato Morobbia Trail, Morobbia Trail, and Runthrough Ascona-Locarno keep the calendar sharp.

Cycling: Locals ride Lugano when they want lake Z2 one day and climbing legs the next. The region gives cyclists more than 415 kilometers of routes. The Southern basin loop runs 50 km and stays completely flat, part in Italy and part in Switzerland. Monte Arbostora gives the 6 km climb between Morcote and Carona a constant reason to look up from the bars. The climb is 3 km and reaches gradients up to 20%. The Axion Lugano Summer Ride 2026 brings crit energy, and Gran Premio Città di Lugano Memorial Albisett anchors the road scene.

Season: May is the clean pick for training in Lugano. Summer gives long warm days, and locals plan intervals early when days above 30°C show up. Lake Lugano keeps easy spins and flat runs honest, while Monte Brè, San Salvatore, Gazzirola, Monte Generoso, and Monte Lema keep climbing close. The city averages 98.1 days of rain or snow, so locals keep a wet-weather option ready. January brings around 27 to 28 freezing nights, but severe cold stays rare. Snow usually arrives every winter, and runners and riders switch toward lower roads, gym work, cyclocross habits, and steadier Z2.
