The XXX^ Trieste 21K is the city's signature running race, though locals also tackle the X^ Corsa dei Castelli for a hillier 10km option through the surrounding ridges. Cyclists dominate the region via the Gran Fondo Corsa per Haiti nelle valli del Torre e Natisone, which threads through the valleys east of the city where the terrain shifts between rolling farmland and technical limestone grades around 400–500m elevation.
