Mines of Spain 100
Mines of Spain 100 is an October trail ultra in Dubuque, Iowa, offering 100-mile and 100-kilometer distances. The race takes place in the Mines of Spain area overlooking the Mississippi River valley. The course features bluffs, prairie, forest, and hills characteristic of eastern Iowa’s driftless region. It is organized by Sun Trail Running, with Joshua Sun as race director, and is part of the No Coast Trail Series. Runners will navigate a roughly 20-mile loop that combines steep, technical singletrack with wider, rolling dirt and prairie doubletrack. The course design accommodates both novice ultrarunners and seasoned trail runners, with an emphasis beyond just front-pack performance. The organizers aim for a grassroots atmosphere combined with thorough organization. Proceeds from the race support local trail organizations and Mines of Spain park initiatives, such as trail upkeep. The event also holds Trail Sisters Approved status, indicating a focus on women's involvement and race standards.
