Southampton and its surrounding area are flat and riverside, making them ideal for road cycling time trials like the North Hampshire RC Club Candover 10 and Alton Cycling Club TT Championship. Runners benefit from the New Forest's sandy trails 20km west and the sheltered Test Valley routes, though the city itself is pancake-flat with most training on tow paths and seafront promenade. Dorney Lake, 40km north near Windsor, hosts the Dorney Lake Duathlon and draws triathletes from across the south coast.
