Running: Locals run Saguenay like a fjord town, with steady base miles around Chicoutimi, Jonquière, La Baie, and Arvida. The 99 km loop hits 32 m of gain when the day calls for sharper intervals. The shorter loop is 18 km and gains 132 m, so Z2 does not have to stay flat. Saguenay does not list a named run club in this brief, but the race calendar gives people a reason to show up. Marathon du Fjord is the anchor event, and La Jakours Athlétisme, La Jakours, and Cap sur ma santé mentale keep the shorter stuff alive.
Cycling: Locals ride the fjord first, because the Véloroute du Fjord du Saguenay stretches over 400 km and feels built for long base miles. Section #19A runs from Chicoutimi to Jonquière for 27 km, so it works when you want a clean road spin. Section #27A runs from Sacré-Coeur to Sainte-Rose-du-Nord for 65 km, and Section #25A runs from Petit-Saguenay to Saint-Siméon for 55 km. Club cycliste Acidose Lactique - Road has 50 members and gives the road scene a real hub. Mont-Bélu, Mont-Édouard, and the fjord roads are where the climbing legs get made.
Season: Mid-August to mid-October is the sweet window if you want fjord miles with marine mammals moving near the mouth of the fjord. Summer opens Mont-Bélu in La Baie on Wednesday evenings and Sunday days, so riders can mix road, lift laps, singletrack, and cyclocross fitness without leaving town. Centre plein air Le Norvégien in Jonquière has 13 varied trails, and La Skole keeps the easy MTB option open for kids. Winter changes the rhythm, because Mont-Édouard turns into a skier mountain while runners and riders shift the focus toward steadier base miles and four-season bike habits.
