Sardinia Trail

Sardinia Trail is a three-stage trail race in Sardinia, Italy, held in May over approximately 100 km. It begins seaside at Marina di Tertenia and concludes inland at Ulassai, featuring around 3,600 to 4,000 metres of elevation gain. As a UTMB Index race, it draws participants seeking a demanding multi-stage mountain challenge over a single-day road race. The course transitions from coastal terrain into the rugged interior of Ogliastra, incorporating sand, seaside paths, forests, mountain trails, and open natural landscapes. One key stage directs participants towards the Punta La Marmora area, Sardinia’s highest point. While the official race website emphasizes the event's adventurous character, the competitive aspect is also evident: Stefan Buck was the inaugural winner, and recent race reports highlight international athletes contending for stage victories from the outset.

XVII^ Mezza Maratona della Ceramica Citta' di Assemini

The Mezza Maratona della Ceramica Citta di Assemini is a road race held in Assemini, a town in Sardinia located near Cagliari. It takes place in October, a month typically offering mild racing conditions with warm afternoons, cool mornings, mostly sunny skies, and minimal rainfall. Although named a half-marathon, the event also features a competitive 10 km race and a 5 km walk, catering to participants not solely focused on the full 21.1 km distance. The race is also known as the Mezza Maratona della Ceramica and Maratonina di Assemini. The 21 km and 10 km races adhere to Italy's official competition entry system, requiring FIDAL confirmation and RUNCARD participants to submit membership details and a valid medical certificate. The 5 km walk offers simpler registration, available online and in person at Campo Coghinas on Via Rio Sa Murta.

About cycling & running in Cagliari

Cagliari Training Notes

Running: Locals run Cagliari by linking parks, lagoons, and short hills instead of hunting one perfect loop. Monte Urpinu Park gives steady Z2 without leaving town, and Molentargius Nature Park works on foot and by bike when you want flat rhythm near the water. The Molentargius loop runs 12 km with +16 m, so locals use it for easy base miles or controlled intervals. The longer route runs 23 km with +84 m when you need a longer hit. S. S. Amsicora are the names to know. CagliariRespira and Karalis 10 are the anchor races.

Cycling: Locals ride from the city centre toward coast, plains, and sharp limestone bumps. One route is 3 km with 988 m ascent, so riders use it when the legs need real climbing and sea air. Another route is 9 km with 497 m ascent for steadier work inland. Another route is 3 km with 113 m ascent when you want a short punch. Another route is 8 km with 2,940 m ascent for big base miles, not chatty cruising.

Season: May and June are the clean months for both runners and riders, and locals know that most people cycle Cagliari then for a reason. Summer brings dry heat from mid-June to mid-September, and s'imbattu gives some relief when the sirocco comes off the sea. Locals run early, ride early, and keep intervals short when the humidity sits high. September starts the rainy season, and December brings the first cold days. Winter stays mild, so Cagliari keeps working for Z2, hill repeats on Castello, and steady rides across Campidano while bigger mountain plans wait.
