About cycling & running in GuadalajaraGuadalajara Training Notes
Running: Locals keep running simple in Guadalajara. Akron Stadium works for easy laps, first base miles, and steady Z2 because the surface stays flat and the crossings disappear. Bosque Los Colomos gives you the opposite day, with inclines and slopes that test your endurance when intervals need a bite. Vias Verdes suit longer rhythm runs on old train tracks turned into bike ways. Kilómetro Social Running Club brings the group-run option. Running & Brunching Club keeps all paces in the mix and adds brunch after. Carrera Popular de los Bomberos, Cross Nacional Yebes - Valdeluz, Media Maratón Azuqueca 21K, and San Silvestre Alcarreña are the main races on the calendar.
Cycling: Cyclists get their best work by leaving the city feel behind and following known lines. The route runs 41 km, and the low difficulty makes it a good endurance day through meadows, scrubland, cereal crops, the River Badiel, and Hita. The route covers 59 km and stacks 4,570 metres of climbing. 33 Club Ciclista gives riders a club base. Via Recreactiva keeps Sundays easy for spins.
Season: May gives Guadalajara the warmest training feel, so locals use it for longer rides, sharper intervals, and race prep. March stays driest, and that makes it a clean month for base miles on Vias Verdes or a steady build toward Media Maratón Azuqueca. July turns wet, and summer usually means mildly hot days with afternoon storms, sometimes with hail flurries late in August or September. Winter stays workable for both sports, because January days reach about 22°C and nights sit around 7°C. The dry winter air keeps Z2 runs and gravel days honest without making the season feel shut down.
