Akron's running routes follow the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath south toward the Cuyahoga Valley, a 20-mile mostly flat corridor that feeds into the Towpath Trail system. For cycling, the region hosts the Bike Cleveland Fundo and Gear Up Velo Independence Criterium, with rolling terrain through Summit County and access to steeper climbs in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park just south. Winter weather and industrial elevation changes make this a hardened runners' and cyclists' territory rather than a destination spot.
