Running: Locals run the waterfront early, then let the breathing and footfall fade into pine shade once the town thins out. Spetses keeps the city centre easy for shakeouts, strides, and Z2 miles before coffee by the masts. Moní Ayíon Pánton, Ligonéri, Ágioi Anárgyroi, and Kouzoúnos give the longer loops more bite. The Spetses Mini Marathon gives runners the anchor event, with a 25km circumnavigation that climbs 381m. The weekend also gives racers a 10K, 5K, kids’ races, and My 1st Spetses mini Marathon 500m.
Cycling: Locals ride the cycling lap around Spetses island when they want base miles with views and steady work. The lap is 5km long, gains 510m, and never feels flat. The climbs sit in the hills, especially after Zogeria Bay, where the top reaches 127 metres. Vrelos comes at 5km, Zogeria Bay at 7km, Agia Paraskevi at 11km, and Ágioi Anárgyroi at 13km. Strong riders treat it like a mini gran fondo, while everyone else respects the descents and saves the crit brain for flatter roads.
Season: October is the best month because Spetses feels built for racing then. The Spetses Mini Marathon and Spetses Marathon make that stretch the anchor season for runners, with blue sky, bright balconies, and wearily elated smiles everywhere. Summer gives cyclists great swims and hot hills, so locals carry enough water and some riders take an electric bike unless they are well trained. Winter changes the feel more than the routes, with quieter Z2 running, steadier riding, and pine-covered hills still doing the interval work for both sports.
