Greensboro Half Marathon

The Chicago Marathon begins and ends in Grant Park, sending a large field through the city on the second Sunday in October. This 26.2-mile road race is one of the World Marathon Majors. Approximately 50,000 runners participate, with a 6 1/2-hour limit for official results. The course is largely flat and fast, attracting both record seekers and runners aiming for personal bests. It crosses the North Side, West Side, and South Side before returning to the Loop. The contemporary event originated as the Mayor Daley Marathon with 4,200 participants, following earlier Chicago marathons in the early 20th century. Entry is via time qualification or lottery, with reserved spots for elites, legacy finishers, and charity runners.

Big Mack Sprint Triathlon

The Big Mack Sprint Triathlon is a multisport race held in early summer at Lake Cammack Park and Marina in Burlington, North Carolina. The triathlon features a 750-meter open-water swim, a 14.5-mile bike course, and a 5-kilometer run. A time-trial swim start is used to space out participants at the beginning. The event also includes duathlon, aquabike, relay, and virtual race options, allowing participation without completing all three triathlon disciplines. It is part of the Trivium Multisport Series and adheres to USA Triathlon Competitive Rules. The swim course is distinctive because Lake Cammack is a clean, protected lake usually closed to public swimming; race day provides athletes with access they would not otherwise have. Following the swim, the bike leg proceeds along quiet country roads, and the run takes place on shaded park trails. The race is designed for both novice and experienced competitors, with convenient access from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Durham. It also serves as the second event in the North Carolina Multisport Medal Series, where finisher medals from five races combine to form a sun catcher.

About cycling & running in Burlington

Burlington Base Miles

Running: Locals keep running simple in Burlington. B-Town Run Club meets at Fleet Feet Burlington on Tuesday nights at 6:15 PM, and all paces and experience levels are welcome. The 8-mile loop gains 65 feet on gravel, sidewalk, and asphalt. The 10-mile loop gains 42 feet. Fairchild Trail, Springwood Trail, Haw River Trail, and Lake Cammack Trail handle easy Z2, hillier intervals, and quiet trail days. Sock Puppets 8K and Run At The Rock keep the race calendar honest.

Cycling: Locals ride mostly flat land with a few rolling hills, so Burlington works well for base miles and steady tempo. The base route is 60 km and climbs 63 m. The 5 mile route adds 113 m, and the Tar Heel 10 miler practice 8 mile route adds 126 m when you want more bite. You can ride a 3 mi gravel hit from Edgewood Ave to Colonial Dr. Cane Creek Mountain is the name locals watch when climbs, trail racing, and hard efforts come up.

Season: Burlington works best when you respect the humid subtropical rhythm. Summer brings high temperatures and evenly distributed precipitation, so locals get out early, keep intervals short, and save long Z2 for cooler windows. Haw River Trail, Lake Cammack Trail, and Springwood Trail stay useful when shade matters. Winter changes the kit more than the attitude. Locals use front and rear lights because it gets dark super early in the winter. Studded tires make sense when pernicious patches of black ice show up, and a windbreaking layer on the outside keeps both runners and riders moving.
