Silvesterlauf rund um den Salzgittersee Lebenstedt
Silvesterlauf rund um den Salzgittersee Lebenstedt is a New Year's Eve running event in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, Lower Saxony, with the route set around the Salzgittersee. LG Salzgitter organizes it, and the main race starts at 2:00 PM from Hallenfreibad Salzgitter. Runners can choose 11.4 km or 5.7 km, children have a 1.2 km run, and Nordic Walking is also on the program. The event has been part of the local running calendar since 1977. The lake gives the race a clear shape: it is an artificial 75-hectare body of water, about 2.1 km long and 0.8 km wide, with a 25-hectare island reached by bridge. Salzgittersee was planned as a city recreation area after earlier ideas from the mid-1930s and more concrete planning from around 1958. That background makes the race feel very local: it uses the city's main leisure lake, offers a free children's run, and gives runners and walkers a structured way to close the year outdoors.
