Stadtlauf St. Gallen

The Stadtlauf St. Gallen guides runners through the old town of St. Gallen, Switzerland, passing the Marktplatz and the monastery district. This September city-running event offers distances from short children's races to 5 km, 10 km, 15 km, and 25 km. The program accommodates families, Nordic walkers, hobby joggers, and faster runners. The 10 km race is divided into a main category for those aiming for under 55 minutes and a Fun category, while the 5 km also welcomes Nordic walkers. The 15 km and 25 km Laufpaket formats allow runners to combine two or three races with a single start number, providing a way for distance enthusiasts to add kilometers on the same day. The Family-Run spans 1.1 km and requires at least one adult and one child. The youngest participants can join a roughly 150-meter run towards the mascot, Muskelkater. Youth entries also include a charitable component, with five francs from their participation donated.

Alpstein Crossing

The Alpstein Crossing is a late-summer mountain race held in Schwende-Rüte, Switzerland, within the Alpstein region. Participants can select between 30 km or 50 km trail distances, positioning it within the mountain endurance category rather than standard road racing. The event also features a Hike & Fly option, designated as a “flugstrecke.” This involves participants combining hiking with paragliding. Additionally, an 8-hour team race is offered, broadening the event's format beyond a straightforward single-distance trail run.

St. Gallen Training Notes

Corrida: St. Gallen keeps running simple, with the city centre, Stadtpark beim Theater, Kreuzbleichepark, Kantonsschulpark, Stadtlounge, and Wildpark Peter und Paul all working for easy miles. Locals use the Steinach side and the Sittertobel for quick changes of rhythm. Run Club St. Gallen by WE•TRST brings the social run vibe every Sunday, with free 5 to 10 km runs at around 6-7 minutes per kilometer. The club started in 2025 and already has over 250 members. Stadtlauf St. Gallen and Auffahrtslauf St.Gallen are the anchor events, with Waldstattlauf - Säntis Panoramalauf close enough for a sharper day out.

Ciclismo: St. Gallen gives riders that mountain-adjacent feeling without making every ride a sufferfest. Locals point the bike between Bodensee and the Alpstein, where low-traffic roads roll over gentle hills, past lakes, and into proper mountain passes. The gravel crowd gets dirt tracks, unsurfaced roads, secluded forest paths, and scenic trails, so Z2 base miles do not get boring. The Lake and Alps route works for road bikes and gravel bikes. Dead Ends & Cake is the local oddball anchor, and Säntis Classic is the big road name. Säntis Classic covers 16 km and gains +2,798 m.

Temporada: St. Gallen trains best in May, June, and July, when short warm summers make doubles, intervals, and longer rides easier to plan. July brings the wettest stretch, with rain falling over an average of 13.8 days, so locals keep the kit ready and go anyway. The city still gets very high precipitation year round, which keeps forest paths and singletrack honest. Winter changes the mood with long, moderately cold weeks and plenty of cloud. Runners keep steady miles around the parks and urban routes. Cyclists shift toward gravel, cyclocross feel, and lower-pressure base miles when the passes stop being the easy answer.
