Running: Locals run the city like a coastal playground, with Haagse Bos, Zuiderpark, Scheveningse Bosjes, Paleistuin, Westbroekpark, Meijendel, Clingendaelpark, and Bos van Pex all in the mix. Scheveningen Beach gives you a 10km run route along the coast, and the city has 11km of beach straight from town. Haagse Bos works for easy Z2, intervals, and a Royal Tour finish near Malieveld. The Hague Road Runners has over 600 members, and its groups go from 5km up to marathon distance. Tante Trail meets Saturdays at 10:00 for 5 or 10km. CPC Loop Den Haag is the anchor event.
Cycling: Locals ride to Scheveningen, along the beach, and through the dunes when they want base miles without overthinking it. The city centre sends you west by bike fast, and the North Sea gives the ride its mood. Lola Cycling Club has weekly rides, and the group rides seem open for everyone, so it is worth a try if you want road or gravel company. The Hague gives you beautifully paved bike lanes, while Noordwijk has mountain bike trails that work on a gravel bike. Bergschenhoek adds hard packed gravel, and a RET tram to Berkel can set up a ride back to The Hague of around 50km. The climbs are the dunes.
Season: Spring, summer, and autumn are the best months here, because locals can stack beach runs, dune loops, crit-style efforts, and steady Z2 rides without too much kit. Summer gets humid, but Scheveningen still works when the sand is nicely packed and the promenade is moving. Runners use Meijendel, Westduin Park, and the Scheveningse Bosjes when they want hill training, singletrack feel, and legs-and-lungs work. Cyclists use the same coastal edge for steady base miles and wind practice. Winter stays milder than inland locations, but the wind gets extremely real, so both sports become about layers, shelter, and honest pacing.
