About cycling & running in CorunnaA Coruña Training Notes
Running: Locals run the Paseo Marítimo first, because the city gives you 13 kilometres by the Atlantic with a proper lane along Orzán and Riazor. The Tower of Hercules pulls steady Z2 traffic from Matadero beach, Casa de los Peces, Adormideras, Parrote, and Plaza de María Pita. The Oza to Bens beach loop gives about 20 kilometres when base miles need more coast. San Pedro, San Diego, Bens, and Santa Margarita work for dirtier laps. Coruña21, 5K Leyma A Coruña, Enseada de San Amaro, and Baixada Popular de Cross San Pedro de Visma are the anchor race names locals know.
Cycling: The route covers 3 kilometres while gaining 497 metres. The climbs sit in the nearby hills, with Monte de San Pedro, Feans, Elviña, Bens, and the road toward Culleredo giving the legs something real. Local clubs maintain and improve trails through the forests, so the singletrack feels cared for. The longer route covers 8 kilometres with 1,043 metres of gain. Deportivo, HC Liceo A Coruña, and Real Club Náutico are the club names in town, while Ecocamino and CRONOESCALADA SANROCKEIRA sit on the race radar.
Season: July to September give the best training window, with warm days, Atlantic air, and enough humidity to make easy Z2 honest. Summer rarely feels brutal because the sea cools the city during the day, even when temperatures above 30°C arrive on many days. Locals keep intervals on the promenade, sunset laps toward the Tower of Hercules, and longer rides out from Riazor. Winter changes the rhythm more than the ambition. Atlantic depressions bring strong wind and plenty of rain, but the ocean keeps the cold mild, so runners keep the Paseo moving and riders pick their gaps for base miles.
