Media Maratón Ciudad de Cádiz

The Media Maratón Ciudad de Cádiz is a 21.097 km half marathon held in Cádiz. It begins at La Caleta and concludes next to the Cathedral of Cádiz. The race takes place in November, starting at 9:00 a.m. This event is in its third edition. The course follows the city’s beachside edge into the historic center, then proceeds along Campo del Sur and the Paseo Marítimo before reaching Calle Brasil and returning to a cathedral finish. It succeeded the Media Maratón Bahía de Cádiz. Categories include runners from Sub 20 to over-70, athletes with disabilities, and local participants.

SAN SILVESTRE GADITANA

The San Silvestre Gaditana is a popular end-of-year running event in Cádiz, organized by Club Polideportivo Olimpo. As a San Silvestre race, it follows the Spanish tradition of festive late-December runs, featuring athletics, general running categories, and children’s races within the same program. The event details do not specify a route, but it is structured as a complete local race day, not merely a start and finish. Participants receive timing, trophies, a runner’s bag, liquid and solid refreshments, showers, changing rooms, restrooms, medical support, a finish-line announcer, and a gift raffle. It is also designated as a solidarity event and is listed on the regional calendar, providing it with official recognition beyond a local fun run.

Carrera Popular por el Acogimiento Familiar y Adopción

The Carrera Popular por el Acogimiento Familiar y Adopción is a small charity race held in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, in late November, starting at 10:00 AM. ACCAM, the Asociación Andaluza de Centros Católicos de Ayuda al Menor, organizes it to promote family foster care and adoption for minors. The event features a 9 km run and a 4 km walk, both with the same entry fee when registration is open. The route takes place within Parque Metropolitano Marisma de Los Toruños y Pinar de la Algaida, linking the race to a protected natural area instead of city streets. The run is for participants aged 16 and over; children may join the walk accompanied by an adult. This is the event's second edition, and the organizer has previously postponed it due to forecasts of storms, heavy rain, and strong winds.

Cádiz Training Notes

Corrida: Locals run the water because Cádiz makes that easy. Paseo Maritimo and Playa de la Victoria give about 3 kilometers of flat promenade for Z2, intervals, and easy shakeouts. The loop runs 8 km and gains 64 m, so nobody wastes legs on hills before a workout. Genovés Park and Jardines de Alameda Apodaca give the Old Town a green reset. Club Atletismo Bahia de Cadiz, Cadiz Runners, and Club de Atletismo Gaditano cover the social miles. Media Maratón Ciudad de Cádiz, San Silvestre Gaditana, Carrera Urbana San Felipe Neri, and 5K Valdelagrana keep the calendar honest.

Ciclismo: Locals ride out of the city when they want distance. One route is 3 km with 247 m of ascent. Another route is 4 km with 200 m of ascent, which works for base miles. One route is 6 km with 2,979 m of ascent, so that is the big gran fondo day. The brief names no cycling club or cycling race, so the scene here stays route-led. The climbs live outside the flat city, toward Sierra de Grazalema, Los Alcornocales, and Campo de Gibraltar.

Temporada: March through June and October through November feel best for both sports. The city gives runners and riders temperatures between 8°C and 29°C across the year, and the good training window sits between 19°C and 27°C. Summer belongs to early starts, late spins, sea breeze, and steady Z2 along the waterfront. Locals still ride plenty in July and August, because most people cycle in Cádiz then. Winter stays mild and sunny, so running works comfortably all 365 days. Sierra de Grazalema changes the riding picture in winter, because that area takes the heavy rainfall while coastal Cádiz stays relatively dry.
