Nacht von Hasbergen

Nacht von Hasbergen is a road race held in Hasbergen, featuring distances for children, relay teams, 5 km runners, elite 5 km runners, and the 10 km main field. The program begins with an opening ceremony and concludes with a 0.5 km Bambinilauf, ensuring very young children participate in the same event as the faster adult races. The race offers several options: 0.5 km for Bambinis, a 5 x 0.5 km relay, a 5 km “half-distance,” a separate 5 km elite race, and the 10 km main race. All proceeds from the Bambinilauf support youth work in Hasbergen, and the children’s portion of the evening includes a dedicated show act. Late entries are accepted on race day for a small additional fee, and the organizers mention that the route may be adjusted due to road construction.

Osnabrücker Ringweg Ultramarathon

The Osnabrücker Ringweg Ultramarathon is a 69.6 km trail ultra near Osnabrück, Germany, held in June along the Osnabrücker Ringweg hiking trail. It begins and ends at the Gut Sutthausen parking lot on Riesenallee. The course gains approximately 730 meters in elevation, making it a long route rather than a particularly steep one. The field is limited to 50 participants, with a brief waiting list if it fills. The 13-hour time limit allows for consistent, self-paced running, not a sprint for every kilometer. The course is marked, but runners should carry a GPS track as some markers might be absent; Garmin and Komoot files are available. Three aid stations are present, with manual timing, a certificate, and a finisher medal. Results are submitted to the DUV. The event has a minimalist character: no toilets or showers are offered, road crossings give way to traffic, and leaving the course, shortening it, or littering can lead to disqualification. This is also a first-edition race, aligning with its practical design: a local ultra utilizing an established hiking loop, where navigation, road awareness, and basic self-reliance are integral to the event.

PUMelchen

PUMelchen gives runners the Piesberg stair treatment without requiring the full PiesBERG-Ultra-Marathon distance: 49 km, 1,750 meters of climbing, and 2,830 steps around Osnabrück, Germany. It is an April trail race option inside the PiesBERG-Ultra setup, with the longer version stretching to 59.5 km, 2,100 meters of climbing, and 3,396 steps. Both distances share an 11-hour time limit, and runners have to start their final lap by 17:00. The route uses gravel and natural paths after an asphalt start, then repeats laps on the Piesberg, where the stair sections do much of the damage. PUMelchen works as an automatic scoring category: runners who do not want the full distance, or who realize the cutoff is getting tight, can stop one lap early without a separate registration. The updated course is slightly shorter than before, but test runners said it flows better, and the small participant limit of 120 keeps it more like a hard local ultra than a big-city mass race.

About cycling & running in Osnabrück

Osnabrück Training Notes

Running: Locals keep easy runs close to the river Hase, the Wüste, Weststadt, Sonnenhügel, Eversburg, and the sport parks at Illoshöhe and Gretesch. OS RunningClub Community gives the scene its steady heartbeat, with Tempo Dienstag on Tuesday at 18:30, Community Runs on Thursday at 18:45, and Sunday Long Runs at 11:00. Beginners sit around 8:00 min/km or slower, and quicker groups go 5:00 min/km or faster. The club mood is simple: pace matters, but the group matters too. Piesberg anchors the hard stuff, with the Osnabrücker Piesberg-Ultra-Marathon, PUMelchen, and the 10. Osnabrücker 6-Stunden-Lauf on local calendars.

Cycling: Locals ride out into Osnabrücker Land when they want base miles, intervals, and that group-ride flow. Radsport - OSC Mein Verein keeps it serious but open, with about 25 active members, mixed groups, a women-only group, beginner work on group riding and clipless pedals, and advanced sessions for structured training and event prep. OSC road training starts at 18:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the Aktivital entrance. RSG Hellern, RSG Sonntagsrunde, RSG Dienstagsrunde, and Mittwochskracher fill the week with social rides. The climbs sit where the valley rises toward Piesberg, the Wiehen Hills, and the northern tip of the Teutoburg Forest. The Peace Route is the named anchor ride, running from Münster to Osnabrück.

Season: Spring and early autumn feel best because locals can stack Z2, long runs, and steady road rides without much fuss. Summer brings Tuesday and Thursday OSC road training at 18:00, weekend road rides by arrangement, and the Sommerlaufserie des TV Georgsmarienhütte on the Rehlberg. JustGo also makes gravel loops from 30 minutes to 4 hours, so a quick spin or a long gravel day both start cleanly. Winter changes the kit and the surface. Cyclists move into Wednesday mobilization and conditioning from 18:00 to 19:00 in Hall D, Thursday strength from 18:00 to 19:00 in the Old Weight Room, and weekend Cross, MTB, or Gravel rides.
