10K Marín Manuel Rosales

The 10K Marín Manuel Rosales is a Saturday-night road race held in Marín, a coastal town in Pontevedra, Galicia. The main 10K and 5K races commence at 22:00, following the school races that begin at 20:30, indicating a focus on evening running rather than a morning start. Both adult distances are officially certified: 10,000 metres and 5,000 metres. The Concello de Marín is the organizing body for this event, which is now in its thirteenth year. All races begin on Avenida de Ourense, near the bus station. The 10K concludes on Rúa Almuiña, while the 5K finishes on Rúa do Forte. Entry limits maintain a moderate field size, accommodating 750 runners for the 10K, 150 for the 5K, and 400 children for the school races. Runners under 18 years old may participate in the 5K or 10K within the standard categories. Additionally, a free inclusive absolute category is available, alongside a non-competitive option.

Ruta BTT dos Callos de Meis

The Ruta BTT dos Callos de Meis is a mountain-bike route in Meis, Pontevedra province, Galicia, starting at 09:00 in mid-July. It provides two off-road BTT routes, 40 km and 34 km, both designated as non-competitive, aligning more with a group cycling challenge than a competition for top positions. The event, organized by Armenteira e Punto C.C., is at least in its tenth year. The participant limit is 500, with categories from Cadete and Junior to Elite, Sub23, Cicloturismo, and Masters up to Master 60, including women in various age groups. Riders with federation licenses have a reduced entry fee compared to those without, consistent with the Spanish cycling federation structure supporting the event.

About cycling & running in Pontevedra

Pontevedra-Marín Training Notes

Running: Locals build easy runs on the Lérez riverbanks because the ground feels soft and flat, and the Lérez path stays safe enough for running together. The city centre sends runners toward the paseo that links the Lérez banks with the Illa de las Esculturas, then out through the trails across the Marismas de Alba. The Bora line gives a longer local hit, with the route running from the Lérez river to the Bora waterfall. The route runs 14 km out-and-back from Av. Orense past the Escuela Naval Militar to Praia de Mogor, and the route gains 88 m. Weekdays suit early starts or post-8 PM Z2. 10K Marín Manuel Rosales, Maratón de Fátima Campelo, Carmiña Carreira, and Redondela Backyard Ultra anchor the race chat.

Cycling: Pontevedra gives riders plenty to work with, with 385 cycle routes on the map and enough coastal roll to keep a group honest. The shortest route covers 6 km with 839 m of ascent. Gravel riders take the Galician Gravel Odyssey when the legs are ready for 100 km and 1,958 m of elevation. Road riders use Historic Heights and Coastal Vistas for 105 km and 1,853 m of elevation, or La Pontevedra Road for 112 km and 1,850 m. The climbs include rolling short steep hills, sustained ramps, Pontevedra Hinterlands, and Cerdedo. Pontevedra 4 Picos, La Pontevedra Road, Ruta BTT dos Callos de Meis, and Ruta MTB Camiños de Barro anchor the calendar.

Season: April and May make the cleanest training block here, especially on the bike, because most people cycle in Pontevedra during those months. Summer keeps the coastal rhythm simple, with Marín, Portocelo, Mogor, the Lérez, and the Marismas de Alba giving runners and riders easy ways to stack Z2 without overthinking it. Locals keep weekday runs early or after 8 PM, then use mild weekends for longer social miles. Winter changes the map fast. Rain pushes runners and cyclists toward closer routes, and the Bora or Os Gafos routes can flood when it rains. The smart move is shorter loops, steady intervals, and routes you can bail from without drama.
