About cycling & running in FlorinaFlorina Training Notes
Running: Locals run easy from the city centre along Sakoulevas’ banks, then push out when the legs want hills. Ottoman Florina gives short urban loops, and the river keeps the first kilometres honest. The kids' race covers 1 km. The medium route covers 82 km and climbs 412 m. The long route covers 91 km and climbs 1,265 m. Go Florina brings the 3K Night Run and 10K Urban Run into town.
Cycling: Locals ride from Florina toward Lake Vegoritida, Amyntaio, Nymfaio, and Prespa when they want base miles with proper scenery. The route covers 03 miles and gains 5171 feet, so nobody calls it an easy spin. The Prespa ride starts from Laimos and covers 10 km in about 2 hours along dirt road, bean fields, and lakeside forest. The big climbing sits on Varnous, Vitsi, Grammos, Voio, Mali Madi, and Triklari. The 3-day cycling trip crosses 300 km and stacks 8,000 m of altitude difference. Florina Trail Challenge is the named local club presence.
Season: June, July, and August are the clean pick for both running and riding. Summers in Florina run warm to hot, and locals lean into early Z2, shaded river starts, and later coffee near the bank. The city centre gets busy as a market town, but the training map opens fast toward Prespa Lakes, Lake Vegoritida, and the wooded valley south of town. Winter changes the game hard. Heavy snow, thick fog, and long freezing spells push runners toward careful short routes, while cyclists swap long road days for gravel caution, cyclocross instincts, or ski-season legs near VIGLA - PISODERI on Mount Verno.
