Bari

Bari's flat Adriatic seafront makes it a fast running city—the V^ Med Marathon and 18° Race for the Cure both exploit the coastal straightness around the old town and modern waterfront. Cyclists head inland south to the limestone plateaus of the Murge hills and the whitewashed trulli villages, where the Gran Fondo Alberobello e delle Murge climbs through 138km of rolling terrain at 200–400m elevation. The city itself sits sea-level, but 20km inland the landscape shifts abruptly to a porous, chalky landscape that's become a cycling classic in southern Italy.
