Topeka's running scene centres on flat prairie courses along the Kansas River and through the city's parks, with the Topeka Turkey Trot drawing hundreds each November. Cyclists in the area have access to serious gravel racing—the Breakaway Gravel Race at Echo Cliff (112.7km) and Lizard Under the Skillet (106.km) both tackle the rolling terrain and dirt roads south and west of the city, where elevation gains exceed 600 metres. Road cyclists can also hit the Fairground Flyer century near Auburn, about 90km east, for a flatter tour through central Kansas farmland.
