Parma

Parma sits on the flat Parma river plain in Emilia-Romagna, ideal for long-distance cycling. The city hosts the 120km Granfondo Parma Bike Marathon and the 155km Granfondo Matildica, both pushing riders south into the Apennine foothills where serious climbing begins around Fidenza and Salsomaggiore. Runners use the flat urban and riverbank routes for the Parma Mezza Maratona half-marathon; the real elevation gains come on the duathlon courses and gravel routes heading toward the hills.
