Sassari

Sassari sits inland on Sardinia's northwest plateau around 225m elevation, making it a cooler alternative to coastal training. The IX^ Alghero Half Marathon runs just 30km away in the flat coastal town of Alghero, where the I Diecimila di Alghero 10km course and Ironman 70.3 Alghero triathlon also draw competitors. Cyclists here climb the granite ridges south toward the Gennargentu massif or ride the gentle coastal loops toward Alghero, while runners mostly do weekday repeats on the town's grid streets before heading to the beach towns for organized races.
